Alex’s Messi Eaters clean up in Freshfield charity fantasy football league
It was a race to the finish when the heavyweights of the Freshfield Serie F fantasy football league put their managerial skills to the test as the season drew to a nail-biting close.
The Freshfield fantasy football league was set up for exclusive entry to Freshfield staff, clients and partners, with the managers of both the first and last placed teams winning a £250 donation on their behalf to a charity of choice.
In the end Alex Walmsley of Harrison Drury Solicitors emerged as champion, finishing on an impressive 2,451 points as his team Messi Eaters clinched top spot.
A season blighted by problems on and off the pitch left reigning champion Joel Durkin’s (Freshfield) TheArtetaMoney in disappointing 17th. Joel said he’ll be rebuilding his squad over the summer to come back stronger next time.
Elsewhere, it was a season of two halves for UnReal Madrid, having been running away with the title before squandering their chances with a dramatic slide down the table. As speculation mounts surrounding his future at the club, manager Gareth Edwards (Freshfield) has declined to comment.
Two Zero Scalers enjoyed a breakthrough promotional season, with Amin Vepari (Lancashire County Council) looking like one to watch for 2021/22.
Down at the bottom, not even an unlimited number of triple captains or bench boosts could have saved Lingardium Leviosa from the relegation battle, with manager Samantha Booth finishing last on a not so magical 161 points.
Freshfield’s Samantha made her donation to the Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s Blue Skies Fund, while Alex of Harrison Drury chose the Rosemere Cancer Foundation in Preston.
Gareth Edwards, head of design at Freshfield and Serie F organiser, said: “The league seemed to intensify this year, with a lot of new entrants and plenty of tactical decisions and mind games!
“As always it has been great fun, and Alex and Samantha have chosen two brilliant charities.”
Details of the 2021/22 league will be released later this summer.
