Using our business to make an impact

As a purpose-led business, Freshfield is built around the belief that business should be a force for good. Our team combines the expertise of strategic advisers, former journalists, content creators and digital specialists to help clients solve communication challenges while also making a positive social, environmental and economic impact.

Beyond client work, Freshfield is deeply rooted in its community. Our dedicated SEE (Social, Environment, Employment) Impact Pledge captures how we translate this purpose into action, measuring our success not just in financial terms but in the tangible benefits delivered to people and the planet.

Our SEE Impact Pledge

Our SEE Impact Pledge reflects our long-term commitment to making meaningful change in three areas:

This pledge guides everything we do from the way we serve clients and engage partners to how our team members give back through volunteering and advocacy.

Social impact

Freshfield amplifies its community impact well beyond commercial activity. We make regular donations to charities including Foxton, St Catherine’s Hospice and the British Heart Foundation. Our team members are active volunteers for a number of organisations including Lancashire-based New Longton Sports and Social Club and the Growing Club, while supporting organisations such as Manchester-based Ded Luvly and Plant Co-operative.

Our CEO Simon Turner is a Trustee of Preston-based charity, Foxton, and a director of Preston Partnership, while PR and Communications director Andrew Taylor sits on the board of Cuerden Valley Park Trust.

Winckley Square

Our CEO, Simon Turner, was the co-founder of Winckley Square Community Interest Company (WSCIC), which helped secure £1.2m to regenerate the city’s historic Gardens.

Environmental impact

We take environmental responsibility seriously, embedding sustainability into everyday operations. In our last SEE Impact reporting period, we saved 14,825 car miles by promoting green transport and hybrid working, recycled 100% of office waste (195kg) and adopted digital-first working and reduced paper use. These small but consistent actions contribute to a greener, more responsible workplace.

Employment and economic impact

Freshfield’s impact extends into employment and the regional economy through responsible business practices and local investment. We offer local students work experience opportunities, while also hosting PR Career Learning Sessions to inspire future talent.

Recent highlights also include over £25,000 spent on workplace health and wellbeing initiatives, with all employees paid above the Living Wage threshold. Our people are central to everything we do. We foster a culture of inclusion, wellbeing, and personal growth that strengthens both our team and our community.

Measuring impact

Freshfield ensures transparency and accountability by conducting independent assessments every 12 months, led by a leading social value consultant. These evaluations track progress of our social, environmental and employment contributions, and shape future commitments, ensuring that every action leads to meaningful change.

Through our projects, partnerships and people, we’re proving that a business can thrive while making a lasting difference socially, environmentally and economically.
