PWA Planning is a specialist planning and development consultancy working with clients across the UK to guide them through the planning process and get development moving.
The firm was founded in 2013 and has grown significantly to advise some of the UK’s most recognised brands, including EG Group, Story Homes, Harmony Energy and Booths.
Our brief
PWA Planning asked for Freshfield’s advice on communicating the firm’s diversification, including its move into the renewable energy sector.
For several years PWA had been winning more planning work for solar energy and battery energy storage projects across the UK. It wanted to showcase its growing expertise in this sector while making clear its continued support for clients in the commercial, residential and sports and leisure sectors.
What we delivered
As part of a brand repositioning project, our team created new standalone brand identities for the firm’s planning, energy planning and land advisory divisions, all underpinned by a refreshed group identity.
These new divisional identities have allowed the company to have a dedicated attack brand for campaigns in specific sectors while staying true to the overarching PWA identity.
We refreshed the verbal identity to show how PWA was using its planning expertise to help clients solve complex challenges. A PR and communications campaign focused on news and thought leadership content which communicated this specialist sector expertise.
Impact
The brand repositioning project and subsequent PR activity resulted in a significant increase in enquiries from clients in its target sectors, particularly from the renewable energy and affordable housing sectors.
PWA has reported a consistently high level of leads and enquiries from businesses in the battery energy storage, solar and wind sectors and other businesses leading on the energy transition.
“We needed our brand identity to reflect both where we’d grown to and our future direction of travel. Freshfield helped us see clearly what we needed to do and developed a strategy for getting us there. I continue to be impressed with Freshfield’s ability to understand our challenges and opportunities. They are a key partner for us.”
