It was a two-horse race as the Freshfield charity fantasy football league reached its conclusion.

But Daniel Boulton of WHN Solicitors ended up running away with it, with We are Sparta FC finishing top of the Serie F league in an impressive breakthrough season with a mammoth 2,518 points.

The league was set up for exclusive entry to Freshfield staff, clients and partners, with the managers of both the first and last placed teams winning a £250 donation on their behalf to a charity of choice.

Over 100 points separated Daniel from last season’s champion Alex Walmsley (Harrison Drury Solicitors), whose Bangers and Rash side couldn’t keep hold of the trophy, placing second in the race for the top.

And there seemed to be a clear case of lawyers’ luck, with Duncan Rawlinson’s (Harrison Drury) Bang Average team not living up to its name, clinching a respectable 3rd place.

On the Freshfield front, there was a tense tussle between Simon Turner, Joel Durkin and Adam Ogden for the sought-after Champions League spot, with Simon’s Fiorentina Turner securing fourth by just 14 points.

Down the other end of the table, only a Christmas miracle could have saved Dan Hughes (PWA Planning) from relegation, whose Fat Turkeys finished last place on 1293 points.

Dan made his donation to Jacob’s Join, while Daniel chose Baby Beat.

Sally French, Finance and Workplace Manager at Freshfield, said: “It’s been brilliant to see the passion and enthusiasm from our amateur football managers in only the second season of the Freshfield charity fantasy league. It’s one of the most competitive and fun of our fundraising initiatives – and to be able to make a difference to two great charities is just the icing on the cake.”

We’ll be sharing details of the 2022/23 league later this summer. For more information in the meantime, please contact Sally French on sally@freshfield.com.
